Egremni is a beach located in the southwest of Lefkada, quite close to Porto Katsiki and shortly after the village of Athani. Although less known than Porto Katsiki, it is also considered one of the best beaches in Greece and Europe, as well as one of the best beaches in the world. It is definitely one of our favourite beaches and our pick for the best beach in Lefkada. The road to Egremni in one section is unpaved and narrow, therefore it can sometimes get congested during the middle of the day in high season (August). This beach has no parking lot, so you park on the side of the road. Unfortunately to reach the beach you have to descend down 347 steep wooden steps, however it is well worth it. The staircase is sturdy, but it is recommended to have good shoes. Thus, this is how the beach gets its name as “Egremni” in Greek actually means “Cliff.” For those that have walking difficulties, many small children, a severe fear of heights, or do not wish to take the stairs, there are boats available from Nydri and Vasiliki that will take you directly to Egremni Beach. The Lefkada Prefecture does not offer buses to this beach. Egremni is a very large white sandy beach stretching more than 2.5 km, making it one of the longest beaches in Lefkada and difficult to get crowded. The water is crystal clear and of striking turquoise blue green color. The water is deep here and drops off quickly. It can frequently experience large intense waves, so be cautious if you are not a good swimmer or with small children. The sunsets are absolutely incredible here with the warm colors reflecting off of the sea.

Porto Katsiki is a beach located on the south-western side of the island, near Athani village and quite close to Egremni Beach. The translation of “Porto Katsiki” from Greek to English means “Port of the Goat.” The beach was given this name as years ago only a goat could reach this area. Today, Porto Katsiki is one of the most well known beaches in Greece, is consistently considered one of the best beaches in Europe, as well as one of the best beaches in the world. There is now a paved road to Porto Katsiki, however the last 5 km section of the road there is narrow and can sometimes get congested during the middle of the day in August (high season). This beach has parking lots (one is paid while the other is free) or you can park along the side of the road. There is a well made, wide staircase to descend to reach the beach which is not difficult for the average person. Unfortunately no buses of the Lefkada Prefecture go to this beach. Alternatively, there are boats available from Nydri or Vasiliki to take tourists directly to Porto Katsiki. Porto Katsiki is a large beach with white pebbles and crystal clear water of striking turquoise blue green color. Although the pebbles are fairly large, they are comfortable to lie on. The water is deep and drops off quickly. The sea here can frequently experience large intense waves, so take care if you are not a good swimmer or with small children. The sunset views are magnificant here.

Kathisma is located 14 kilometres west of the capital city Lefkada. This vast expanse of golden sand and azure water is a continuation of Agios Nikitas beach after the interruption of the headland cliffs. A rough track leads down to the beach and ends there. Kathisma, with its long beach with fine white sand and turquoise waters surrounded by impressive cliffs, is one of the most beautiful beaches on Lefkada. On the right the beach ends at the rocks, which run quite a long way out to sea, with little caves and coves, super place for swimming. In effect, it is the sea beach which can be reached from Kalamitsi, the next village to the south. Off the beach on this side are some little rocky islets where bats nest. At dusk they can be seen heading in flocks for the vineyards which lie at the top of the beach. The sunset at Kathisa is unforgettable.The sands at Kathisma are some of the most popular on Lefkas. Although this beach is not blessed with much shade, it nevertheless has interesting rock promontories and caves to explore and a couple of large rocks in the sea at the southern end where nudists tend to congregate. Kathisma beach often makes it into the top ten most beautiful Mediterranean beaches and it is easy to understand why. However, as the sand can create deep shelves, be aware that children need to be watched closely. The sea water is wonderful, but care should be taken when the north-west wind gets up the waves can be quite dangerous. On the main section of the beach there are tavernas and bars with swimming pools in the bars. As it is west facing, many people linger around to enjoy the sunsets. There is as well various accommodation options. There are plenty of beach umbrellas and beds and the beach has a young and lively feel, with volleyball and tennis courts. In the summer you can enjoy paragliding from the cliffs. Kathima is a beach of the youth. For those who like loud music and dancing it is a perfect place to live it up and have a great time. There is a regular bus service from Lefkas Town and plenty of parking behind the beach. Parking is in great demand at weekends when visitors arrive in droves. Fortunately, the beach is big enough for it rarely to feel too crowded.

Milos Beach is located in the northwest area of Lefkada, very close to the village of Agias Nikitas. If you decide to drive there, you can park the car in the parking lot in Agios Nikitas (which is free) and look for the wooden sign for the pathway from Agias Nikitas to Milos Beach, which is just before the harbour. To reach the beach you must walk 15 minutes along a dirt path over a hill and through some trees. The pathway at some points can get steep, but is not an extremely difficult walk. The views from the pathway are stunning as you can see the whole beach of Milos from above. Near the path is a windmill (called Milos in Greek), hence the name of the beach. For those less outdoorsy or who have many small children, you can reach the beach by a small speed boat from Agias Nikitas during the summer months. If you do not have or wish to rent a car, there are buses to Agias Nikitas from Lefkada Town. Milos Beach is a large white sandy beach with crystal clear turquoise blue green waters. The water is deep and drops off quickly, therefore it may be dangerous for kids or those who don’t know how to swim well due to the fact that the sea can have big waves and be rough sometimes. To the far right of the beach (as you go down the path) there may be nude sunbathers. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, nor canteen at this beach, creating a more natural setting.

Agiofili beach is situated 38 km south of Lefkada Town and close to the village of Vassiliki. This is one of the clearest beaches in Lefkada with brilliant crystal waters and white soft sand. It is surrounded by white stone cliffs that create a beautiful setting and a feeling of seclusion. A nice trekking path connects Vassiliki with Agiofili. However, it is suggested to access the beach by a boat from Vassiliki. You will definitely enjoy this short trip.

Mikros Gialos itself is a typical old Greek village in the southern part of the island. Striking traditional houses are characteristic here, connected by a myriad of narrow alleyways and paths leading to the local shops and tavernas serving appetizing local Greek cuisine. This part of Lefkada is described time and again as the “gem” of the island. It is without doubt that you will be in complete agreement after your stay in this idyllic place. The long sandy beach is boarded with crystal waters and has sun beds, umbrellas, taverns and snack bars.
